Meeting Xiahou

Hannibal meets Xiahou when Abigail brings him to the Nightcrawler Squad’s factory base. Although the team finds Xiahou’s claims about being a player absurd, Hannibal is the first to engage with him. His questions about players, game characters, and the team’s future trigger the side quest “King Hannibal’s questions,” rewarding Xiahou with 300 energy points and one random draw 9.

Hannibal subsequently questions how Xiahou receives mission rewards and summons weapons. He helps persuade Xiahou to explain his situation by acknowledging how disturbing it would be to discover that one exists inside a comic or movie 10.

Rescuing Blade

During the raid on the FBI building, Hannibal is assigned to rescue Blade while Abigail and Xiahou disable surveillance. He infiltrates the interrogation area, kills vampires, and administers Sommerfield’s suppression serum to Blade. A large vampire pins Hannibal against a wall, but the recovering Blade intervenes 11 12 13.

When Xiahou is shot while covering their escape, Hannibal prevents Abigail from rushing into the gunfire and urges her to trust Xiahou’s promise that he can respawn. After escaping, he explains Xiahou’s sacrifice to Blade and gives Abigail space to grieve. He later witnesses Xiahou reappear at the base in a gathering of light 13 14.

Investigating Dr. Vance

After questioning vampire associates with Blade and Abigail, Hannibal invites Xiahou to help capture Dr. Vance. Xiahou warns that Drake may be present and recalls Hannibal being injured in the original story, prompting Hannibal to consider additional protective equipment 17 18.

At Vance’s office, Xiahou stops Hannibal from approaching Drake, who is impersonating the doctor. After Xiahou forces Drake through a window, Hannibal questions the dying Vance and receives an address. He then returns to base with Abigail and the collected sample of Drake’s blood 19 20.

Later, concerned by Xiahou’s prolonged silence, Hannibal breaks into his room and finds him unconscious after using the Heart of the Dragon Slayer. He checks that Xiahou is breathing and fetches Field for medical help 20.

Assault on Vampire Headquarters

Before the final assault, Hannibal initially supports Blade’s willingness to sacrifice himself. After Xiahou argues that cooperation offers a better option, Hannibal asks Blade to trust the squad and recognize them as teammates 24.

At vampire headquarters, Hannibal opens the battle with an ultraviolet grenade. As reinforcements overwhelm the team, he uses silver-powder glass balls to disrupt the vampires, relieve pressure on Abigail, and temporarily block the stairwell. He directs Xiahou away from the lesser vampires to help Blade defeat Drake, while he and Abigail hold the remaining enemies back 26 27 28.

Both are wounded and surrounded when Danica declares victory. Hannibal recognizes the spreading effects of Daystar and tells her she has celebrated too soon. The surrounding vampires, including Danica, are destroyed, and Hannibal returns to the safe house for treatment 28 29.

Farewell and British Operations

Still bandaged after the battle, Hannibal remains behind while Xiahou and Blade destroy the final blood bank. When Xiahou leaves to travel, Hannibal provides him with a Kawasaki ZX-10R motorcycle 30 31.

During a later phone call, Hannibal tells Xiahou that the entire squad has traveled to the United Kingdom to confront werewolves and vampires. He declines Xiahou’s offer of help, saying the team can handle the situation, and informs the others that their friend is safe 41.

Personality

Hannibal is talkative, irreverent, and fond of provocative jokes. He teases Abigail and Xiahou about their apparent attraction, trades insults with enemies, and tries to persuade his teammates to bet against his own choice during Xiahou’s spar with Blade. He describes his banter as an attempt to “liven things up” 11 16 27 30.

His curiosity about Xiahou’s player abilities is unusually persistent. He asks what dying feels like, requests a demonstration of respawning, questions purchases from the game shop, and physically tests Xiahou’s supposedly unremovable shorts 11 12 17.

Beneath the jokes, Hannibal is attentive to his teammates’ safety and feelings. He checks on an unresponsive Xiahou, encourages Blade to trust the group, and later advises Abigail not to dwell on someone who deliberately keeps his distance from her 20 24 30.

He also enjoys theatrical displays: after knocking down a guard with an elaborate combination of attacks, he explains that he thought it looked cool. His stated ambition after vampire hunting is to become an actor, specifically suggesting that he could play Green Lantern 19 25.
