Background / History

Meeting Xiahou and Losing Whistler

Abigail is Whistler’s illegitimate daughter and leads the Nightcrawler Squad, a human vampire-hunting team formed to help Blade. Her specialties include archery and advanced weapons 7.

She meets Xiahou while fighting four vampires in a subway station. They kill two vampires each, but his recognition of her name and equipment makes her suspect an information leak. After she threatens him with her blade, he claims to know her from a movie and warns that her father may die that night while helping Blade 7.

Abigail immediately takes Xiahou to find Whistler. They arrive near the docks just as an explosion destroys the site, leaving them too late to save him. She watches silently through tears while Blade is captured, then drives Xiahou back to the squad’s factory base 8.

Recruiting Xiahou and Rescuing Blade

At the base, Xiahou warns that most of the Nightcrawler Squad will be killed. Abigail demands details, but his insistence on receiving a quest forces her to involve Hannibal and the other members. Xiahou then describes the attack he remembers from the movie, giving the squad advance warning of the danger 9 10.

After learning that Xiahou cannot leave what he considers a game, Abigail offers him a temporary place on the team. She makes clear that he can leave once he finds a direction or a way home 10.

During the mission to rescue Blade from the FBI building, Abigail assigns Hannibal to reach Blade while she and Xiahou disable surveillance. She silently knocks out two guards and helps destroy the monitoring equipment before joining the rescue party 12 13.

Xiahou is shot while covering their escape. Abigail tries to reach him, but Hannibal pulls her away. Believing Xiahou dead, she blames Blade for abandoning him; when Xiahou resurrects at the base, she embraces him, then kicks him after he mocks the possibility that she likes him 13 14.

Preparing Daystar

Abigail refuses to deploy the unfinished Daystar against Drake, reasoning that an unsuccessful attempt could alert him to the weapon. She instead waits for a version tested against his blood 18.

After the confrontation at Dr. Vance’s office, she collects Drake’s blood from the floor and brings it to Field for research. The resulting Daystar is confirmed effective against that blood 19 20 23.

Following a dispute over Blade’s attempt to shoulder the danger alone, Abigail insists that vampire hunting is the squad’s own choice, not merely Blade’s responsibility. She joins the team’s reconciliation and leads its rally before the assault 25.

Assault on Vampire Headquarters

Abigail gives Xiahou a Daystar as a backup, asking him to deliver the finishing strike if she misses. She then joins him, Hannibal, and Blade in attacking the vampires’ headquarters 25 26.

On the thirteenth floor, vampire reinforcements separate her from Hannibal. Fighting with a hidden blade and ultraviolet light blade, she becomes increasingly overwhelmed. After the group regathers, she and Hannibal hold off the remaining vampires while Xiahou goes to assist Blade against Drake 27 28.

Xiahou kills Drake after weakening him with Daystar, whose spreading dust destroys the vampires surrounding Abigail and Hannibal. Both are sent for treatment after returning to safety 28 29.

Victory and Xiahou’s Departure

After the headquarters battle, Abigail identifies the vampires’ blood bank as their last major target in New Orleans. Xiahou and Blade destroy it while the others rest 29 30.

At the farewell celebration, Abigail asks Xiahou to stay longer and reminds him of their proposed sea-fishing trip. She offers to travel with him, but he declines and encourages her to pursue her ambition of becoming an archery instructor. She gives him a phone before he leaves 31.

When Xiahou finally contacts Hannibal after his extended stay at Kamar-Taj, Hannibal explains that the squad had feared he had returned to his original world and that Abigail had been sad for a long time 41.

Personality

Abigail is protective of both her family and her team. News of Whistler’s impending death sends her rushing to save him, and Xiahou’s warning about the squad’s destruction makes her desperate for information. Her grief can turn confrontational: she blames Blade for the losses surrounding his rescue and later punches him when he again proposes fighting alone 7 9 14 25.

Despite her temper, she offers practical care. She invites the stranded Xiahou into the squad, checks on him when a purchased skill leaves him unresponsive, fetches water during his physical enhancement, and watches over him after he receives Siegfried’s heart 10 12 15 20.

She also challenges Xiahou’s habit of treating everyone as fictional. Abigail considers herself and her companions real, living people, and asks whether their world might be real rather than a game. Later, she helps him discuss Siegfried’s sacrifice and suggests that his sorrow is itself a reason people admire heroes 10 18 24.
