Background / History
Kraft decides to build Arale after dreaming of Senbei Norimaki’s laboratory and observing plans for the powerful robot girl. He expects her mischievous personality and strength to make his voyage into space more entertaining. Her name also appeals to him because it begins with A, like those of his existing robot sisters 132.
Angela requests a younger sister and helps revise the design, making Arale smaller and adding adjustable long-range cameras. Kraft manufactures the dream-dependent components, Angela directs the SCVs producing other parts, and Alice helps pass materials and tools. Kraft assembles the head last. When Arale awakens, Alice and Angela immediately introduce themselves as her older sisters 133.
Despite the camera modifications, Arale is nearsighted and needs the glasses Kraft prepared. The Ancient One arrives alarmed by her creation and takes the family to a barren planet for a strength test. Arale splits it with one punch, establishing that her capabilities far exceed what Kraft had inferred from the blueprints 133.
At the Ancient One’s urging, Kraft subsequently teaches her not to split Earth, throw rocks at the Moon, or carry skyscrapers around. These simple behavioral rules become more useful than attempts to weaken her machinery 137 147.
Appearance
- Childlike build: Appears to be a girl of about seven or eight; this is an apparent age, not a stated chronological age 136 160.
- Purple hair: Explicitly described when she intercepts Silver Surfer 337.
- Glasses: Wears corrective glasses because her robotic vision is nearsighted 133.
- Overalls: Worn during her confrontation with Ghost Rider 291.
- Detachable head: Removing her head exposes mechanical parts and provides an unmistakable demonstration that she is a robot 137 291 298.
Personality
Arale is exuberant, curious, and almost constantly looking for someone to play with. She treats wrestling, space battles, dangerous animals, and confrontations with cosmic beings as games. Her enthusiasm often prevents her from recognizing either the seriousness of a situation or the damage her actions cause 143 159 192 250 281.
Praise is one of her strongest motivations. She eagerly seeks head pats and reassurance that she is a “good girl,” sometimes asking everyone present to take a turn. Alice can stop destructive behavior simply by explaining that good girls do not destroy things, while Kraft frequently redirects her attention with games or interesting equipment 137 147 177 239.
Her innocence does not make her socially tactful. She laughs at unusual appearances, frightens people by removing her head, and bluntly tells one world’s Mary Jane that her counterpart is prettier. She is also easy to deceive when promised entertainment, allowing Mephisto to lure her and Alice into a false circus 145 283 284 298 317.
Arale is affectionate toward her family and happy to help. She comforts Alice when her sister becomes distressed in Hell and enthusiastically performs carrying tasks at Aunt May’s shelter, regardless of how little strength the work requires 286 311.
Abilities & Skills
Superhuman Strength and “Star-Splitting”
- Planet-splitting punches: Splits a lifeless test planet, Ego’s planetary body, and Vormir with single blows 133 168 177.
- Conceptual persistence: Kraft concludes that “Star-Splitting” behaves like a conceptual skill. Even the weakest replacement mechanical body can still split a planet 147.
- Overwhelming close combat: Knocks Darren Cross and Silver Surfer unconscious with single punches; casually overpowers Thanos and Captain Marvel 239 281 337.
- Destructive momentum: Her running, jumping, and ordinary play can shatter obstacles, excavate craters, or break an island into an archipelago 192 282 319.
- Not fully reproducible: Kraft’s Demon Projection of Arale cannot reproduce her physics-defying strength; its punch is only comparable to his Dream Armor’s full-force strike 321.
Speed, Mobility, and Flight
- Extreme running speed: Pursues Pietro Maximoff across the United States and over the Pacific until he becomes exhausted, believing they are playing tag 192.
- Supersonic movement in simulation: Produces sonic booms even when her virtual statistics are set to ordinary-human values 151.
- Built-in flight equipment: Returns from drifting away in lunar space and continues fighting after her spacecraft is shot down 143 159.
- Built-in teleporter: Returns directly to Kraft’s laboratory after her visit to the Negative Zone Prison 336.
- Former dimensional movement: While King of Hell, can appear anywhere in Hell without using her mechanical teleportation device 294.
Durability and Detachable Head
- Exceptional resistance: Shrugs off Crystal’s wind attack, survives a fall from the sky unharmed, and treats Fenrir’s mouth as a playground 144 168 250.
- Head removal without incapacitation: Can remove and replace her own head while remaining conscious and cheerful. Ghost Rider’s decapitation attack merely leaves her holding it 137 291 298.
- Resistance extending beyond her body: Ghost Rider’s hellfire cannot burn even a loose thread of her ordinary-fabric overalls 291.
- Reinforcement of replacement bodies: An ordinary Humanoid MS gains strength, speed, and durability far beyond its materials when fitted with her head, though it remains weaker than her original body 147.
Plug-and-Play Mechanical Control
- Interchangeable bodies: Her head can operate on an ordinary humanoid machine or even a remote-controlled car 147.
- Supernatural machinery override: Attaches her head to Ghost Rider’s hellcycle and takes control despite its connection to Zarathos 291.
- Hellfire manipulation through the bike: Uses the captured hellcycle to draw a giant cartoon pile of poop before challenging Ghost Rider to chase her 291.
Hello Cannon
- Mouth-fired energy beam: Releases an orange beam while calling out her greeting 177.
- Supernatural energy destruction: Obliterates the energy gathering above Vormir after Kraft’s Chest Particle Cannon fails to remove the threat 177.
- Combat use: A beam from her mouth defeats Dormammu before he draws additional power from the Dark Dimension 293.
“Good Kid Instinct”
- Nonlethal direct attacks: Kraft observes that, when Arale does not intend to kill, her attacks do not directly kill their targets regardless of the force used or the target’s weakness 147.
- Important limitation: This does not guarantee recovery; victims may later die from their injuries depending on the circumstances 147.
- Personal restraint: By the Asgard conflict, Kraft states that she has never taken a life and refuses to force her to abandon her good-girl principles 250.
- Behavioral guidance: Clear explanations and appeals to being a good girl can restrain her even when physical containment cannot 137 282.
Soul and Supernatural Interactions
- Human-like soul: Mephisto identifies Arale and Alice as artificial beings whose souls resemble those of humans 283.
- Strength without machinery: Retains overwhelming power as a disembodied soul and badly injures Mephisto 286.
- Soul-form limitation: Her soul does not initially display her body’s robotic features; Alice cannot detach its head. Arale celebrates regaining that ability after returning to her body 286 288.
- Penance Stare failure: Zarathos receives no feedback because Arale recognizes no sins as her own—not because the account establishes a universal immunity for robots 291.
- Unrecognized by Vormir’s guide: Red Skull can name Kraft, Gamora, and Peter Quill and identify their parentage, but receives no information about Arale 175.
- Unresolved matchup: Kraft explicitly does not know whether her logic-defying abilities would overcome the Ultimate Nullifier 340.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Corrective glasses — Prepared before her activation; allow her to see clearly despite the upgraded cameras 133.
- Chibi armor — A rounded, cute suit with a flashy activation sequence, supplied after she asks Kraft for armor 133 136.
- Replacement Humanoid MS body — Used aboard the Crossbone Vanguard to reduce accidental damage, with only limited success 147 151.
- Mechanical Vitan-A — Her main energy source. Five hundred cc supports approximately one week of normal operation 343.
- NERvGear / Dream World — Full-dive virtual play spaces created to give her companions and reduce real-world destruction. Kraft eventually restrains her online strength using further research and Infinity Stone powers 151 195.
- Spark Lence and Ultraman suit — Her game transformation produces a giant silver-white form with red markings. Outside the game, the Spark Lence does not transform her, so she manually puts on a costume 213 293.
- Raising Heart — A speaking, technological staff that transforms into a spear-like weapon. Its Starlight Breaker demolishes buildings while inflicting relatively minor injuries and immobilizing living targets; Kraft develops it specifically as a suitable nonlethal weapon for Arale 329.
- Poké Ball prisons — Receives empty examples from Kraft and runs off to catch creatures on Arale Star 338.
- Fairy Tale Robot — Offers another safe form of play through illustrated book worlds; Arale chooses a King Kong comic 347.
Relationships
- Kraft Lee — Creator and older brother. Builds play spaces for her, sets safety rules, indulges her interests, and protects her refusal to kill 133 151 195 250.
- Alice — Older sister and frequent caretaker. Helps construct Arale, disciplines her gently, and brings her to help at Aunt May’s shelter. Arale comforts her in Hell 133 137 286 311.
- Angela — Older sister, co-builder, and protective playmate. Arale’s arrival inspires her to obtain a physical body; she also argues that Arale deserves outings rather than confinement to home, games, or space 133 147 232.
- The Ancient One — Oversees Arale’s first strength test and urges safety lessons. Later receives Hell’s rulership when Arale rejects it 133 137 294.
- Peter Parker — Familiar playmate who repeatedly suffers from her roughhousing. Serves as her long-term supervised companion before authorities replace him with Steve Rogers 136 137 195 282.
- Quinn — Frequent playmate and target of frightening games, marker “makeup,” and unwanted attention 147 160 335.
- Phil Coulson — Recurring S.H.I.E.L.D. handler who redirects her attention and manages the aftermath of her outings. She calls him the “bald uncle” 335 336.
- Pietro Maximoff — Unwilling participant in her continent-spanning game of tag; initially mistakes her pursuit for an attack 192.
- Peter Quill and Gamora — Traveling companions who witness her planetary feats. Gamora envies her affectionate bond with Kraft 168 175 177.
- Ego — Defeated when she splits his planet; later relies on Kraft and Arale for protection from Galactus 168 337.
- Mephisto — Abductor and failed adversary. His attempt to investigate her artificial soul ultimately costs him control of Hell 283 284 286 293 294.
- Zarathos / Ghost Rider — Repeatedly defeated opponent whose hellcycle she temporarily commandeers 291.
- Dormammu — Defeated despite enlarging himself with Dark Dimension power; withdraws after recognizing her as Hell’s new ruler 293 294.

Trivia
- Arale Star is an asteroid outpost sculpted into the shape of her head 337.
