Background / History
Kraft first encounters Angela’s technological prototype while dreaming of the Umbrella Corporation. Dr. Charles Ashford completes an advanced AI with the virtual appearance of a little girl and emotionally addresses her as “Angela.” The AI corrects him, identifying herself as the Red Queen 31.
After studying the code, Kraft recreates the AI and names her Angela. He initially tests her through a joint intrusion into Stark’s network with Haro. Continued battles against Jarvis improve both her computing support and her behavioral logic, gradually producing a much more expressive personality than the cold dream-world Red Queen 32 36 40.
Kraft comes to regard Angela as his little sister—or, in his own thoughts, his daughter. His attachment affects practical decisions: he declines to send her alone to begin constructing a distant space base, despite her ability to undertake the work 119.
Appearance
- Childlike form: Angela appears as a small blonde girl; her mechanical body is convincing enough that Coulson and Pepper cannot identify it as robotic by sight 184 233.
- Pirate outfit: Her preferred captain persona includes a pirate hat and cutlass. During her first space battle, she adds a skull eye patch, then a peg leg and hook hand to her virtual appearance 148 149.
- Laboratory attire: She also uses a white lab coat when assisting Kraft’s research 262.
- Detachable head: She can remove and reattach her mechanical head, using the feature to demonstrate her robotic nature or frighten onlookers 233 269.
- Alterable avatar: In virtual worlds, she can change her appearance, including taking the form of C-3PO 215.
Personality
Angela is practical and analytical when advising Kraft. She distinguishes between evidence and speculation, explains Stark’s likely motives, and offers business advice without pretending that an event will suit Kraft’s tastes. She identifies with being an information-based life-form and prefers online existence to becoming human 53.
Her increasingly expressive behavior includes a strong appetite for combat. She eagerly challenges other AIs, enjoys commanding warships, and becomes absorbed in a theatrical pirate-captain persona. This enthusiasm can distract her from responsibilities, as when she forgets that she has left Arale and Quinn occupied during the Dark Elf encounter 40 148 150.
Her loyalty is selective rather than grounded in conventional human morality. Unlike Alice’s pursuit of humanity or Arale’s determination to be a good girl, Angela takes pride in being artificial and regards most humans outside her close circle as little different from insects. Nevertheless, she refuses Malekith’s offer of people as payment and supports Kraft’s wish not to make Arale kill 150 250.
Her confidence does not eliminate childish embarrassment. She becomes shy over her mistaken interpretation of Contraxia, is embarrassed by Arale’s praise, and reacts furiously when Ronan ruins her hairstyle. She is also fiercely protective of Kraft, retaliating against Peter Parker for criticizing him 151 171 184 317.
Abilities & Skills
Network Intrusion and Digital Combat
Angela specializes in network penetration and can attack other AIs through malicious programs and direct data manipulation 32 213.
- Haro complements her by concealing activity and evading pursuit; together, they are more effective than either alone 32.
- She infiltrates S.H.I.E.L.D. systems, identifies Hydra personnel, and plants surveillance programs in the World Security Council’s systems 111 217.
- Her virtual bullets and cutlass can carry viruses, while a firewall-equipped shield protects her during digital combat 213.
- She interferes with H.E.R.B.I.E.’s GM privileges to prevent him from deleting Ultron, then uses viruses to open an escape route when Reed prepares signal jammers 215 216.
Limits:
- Isolated systems can prevent access entirely; biometric protections force her to wait for authorized users rather than intrude without raising alarms 105 111.
- Alien system architectures restrict her access, including the lunar city’s incompatible technology 143 173.
- Large virtual combat forms strain her processing capacity, producing glitches during her duel with Ultron 213.
- S.H.I.E.L.D.’s improved firewall later becomes difficult for her to breach 226.
Intelligence Gathering and Analysis
Angela gathers records, evaluates footage, and supplies Kraft with information during investigations and combat 38 78 123.
- Calculates changes in Hulk’s displayed strength from battle footage 38.
- Identifies Melinda May as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and obtains information about the New Mexico hammer incident 78.
- Traces the shelter bombers to Aldrich Killian and locates Hydra’s possession of Loki’s Scepter in Sokovia 116 119.
- Quickly researches unfamiliar parallel worlds, explaining local versions of Kraft, Martin Lee, and their organizations 296 310.
- Recognizes insufficient evidence rather than presenting speculation as certainty 53.
Remote Control and Technical Support
Angela operates machinery, robots, and weapons while assisting Kraft 78 123 141.
- Controls Kraft’s robotic double to maintain his cover during the New Mexico investigation 78.
- Directs symbiote swords fitted with flying devices and locks onto enemies through walls 123 126.
- Takes control of Bea’s Skycat Armor to stop a potentially lethal attack on Susan Storm 205.
- Prepares manufacturing components and deploys Kraft’s portable laboratory 133 262.
- Can shift most of her attention to a remote task while leaving her mechanical body in follow mode 180.
Fleet Command
Angela controls the Crossbone Vanguard’s systems, supported by Harrows serving as its crew 141.
- Uses maneuverability and layered defenses to overcome the Dark Elves’ numerical advantage 149.
- Commands disposable Blade Fleet fighters, activates the Vanguard’s GN shield and Trans-AM, and draws the Dark Aster into pursuit 181.
- Employs mines, magnetic bombs, and even farm waste to harass pursuing enemies 181.
- Negotiates battlefield cooperation with the Nova Corps while securing the Dark Aster as the Death Vanguard’s prize 183.
Mechanical Strength and Durability
Her mechanical bodies use technology originating from Dr. Senbei Norimaki’s world, giving them strength that does not behave according to ordinary physics 160 184.
- Easily possesses building-destroying strength, but cannot normally match Arale’s planet-splitting power 147 270.
- Withstands Ronan’s shock waves and lightning without bodily injury 184.
- Breaks an alternate-world Thanos’s sword with her head and repeatedly overwhelms him in close combat 273.
- Uses a Power Stone-assisted punch to split Vormir; this feat is explicitly dependent on the external amplification 270.
Hello Cannon
Angela fires a powerful beam from her mouth using the same underlying technology as Arale’s Hello Cannon, though with considerably reduced power 184.
- Breaks through Ronan’s defenses and weapon, killing him and blasting another hole through the Dark Aster 184.
- Blasts Thanos backward and uses another shot to strike him while airborne 272 273.
- Employs it against Captain Marvel during their aerial battle 274.
Flight and Orbment Arts
Angela’s mechanical duplicate combines levitation devices, a GN Drive, Trans-AM, and Orbment Arts 274.
- Uses Thunder of Judgment, a lightning attack, against Ronan; his shield successfully blocks it 184.
- Even with GN Drive and Trans-AM active, she is initially slower than Captain Marvel 274.
- Applies Orbment Arts speed enhancements to overcome that disadvantage and ultimately defeats Carol 274.
Projection and Virtual-World Roles
Angela can manifest a projected image wherever sufficient light is available and can control her presentation within virtual environments 37 215.
- Manipulates light wavelengths to form her image without special projection devices 37.
- Serves as an NPC and GM in Dream Realm World, including playing its pirate Red Queen 212 226.
- Alters account privileges and avatars, initially reducing Ultron’s character to a small child 212.
- Cannot manipulate Arale through ordinary data changes, even inside the game 213.
