Background & History
Kismet was originally an “ignorant, unfeeling quill” connected to a prior master. After being abandoned, he drifted in the ocean until Ophelia awakened him from chaos and made him her servant. He continued searching for his original master through Fate Pages while outwardly pledging loyalty to Ophelia. His original master was later revealed to be Douglas, the previous true owner of the Death Wizard Diary. 445 446 1018
For generations, Kismet was bound by the Death Wizard Diary’s curse. The Diary compelled him to create Fate Pages, locate prospective owners, and arrange circumstances that could kill them—while still hoping they would overcome the predetermined fate that consumed prior owners. A portion of his soul remained sealed in a Black Page. 707 708
He first approached Thor under the identity of Victor. Kismet repeatedly addressed Thor as “Master,” spoke obsessively of fate, and directed him toward Golden Pages, including one stored in the Land of No Owner. Gorsa recognized him as a Tier 2 Wizard whose appearances were rumored to precede catastrophic mass deaths. 209 279 280
Kismet’s past was infamous enough that Lucy blamed him for inciting a war on the Eskaper Continent in which one of her close friends died. The Star Gate Council intended to execute him, but Ophelia expended substantial resources to save him; he was subsequently barred from the Eskaper Continent. 623
During the crisis surrounding the Wind Eye, Kismet was afflicted by Chaos Radiation and attacked Lucy, Red Beard, and Brando. Despite this, Thor later selected him to reinforce the Ice Lock Array because of his strength and familiarity with the Land of No Owner. Lucy’s betrayal caused both of them to be drawn toward the Wind Eye, where Kismet was temporarily sealed before Thor extracted him with the Diary’s power. 634 681 682 683
When Thor broke the Diary’s predetermined curse, Kismet’s restraints were severed. He revealed his suppressed strength, killed Ophelia’s Avatar, and accepted Thor’s bargain: Thor returned Kismet’s sealed soul in exchange for assistance with his advancement. Kismet subsequently provided Golden Pages, intelligence, and the Death Weaving Thread method that Thor adapted into the Symphony of Fate. 707 708 710 721 722
Kismet later volunteered to become one of Thor’s Symphony of Fate targets, but the array could not establish a Fate Line with him. His unusually serious reaction and refusal to permit a physical examination suggested that his fate remained abnormal even after recovering his Soul Fragment. 976 982 983
He accompanied Thor into the Eye of the Abyss, where he used his abilities and his own body to protect Thor from Anchor Point Monsters. Kismet suffered extreme distortion and had his heart torn out while shielding Thor, but remained focused on keeping him alive. 1021 1022 1023
After returning from the Abyss, Douglas exerted control over Kismet and drove him to betray Thor in an attempt to extract the Death Wizard Diary. Kismet ultimately discarded his physical form rather than accept an incomplete freedom, becoming a Silver Quill that Thor used to drag Douglas’s true form into the Wizard World. 1042 1043 1049
Appearance
Kismet commonly appears as a tall, elegant silver-haired man carrying a harp. His theatrical manner, graceful gestures, and conspicuous smile often contrast with the danger surrounding him. 361 623

Personality
Kismet is playful, dramatic, and deliberately evasive. He enjoys provoking others, speaks in riddles, and habitually frames events as fate. His excitement intensifies around moments of danger, upheaval, or unlikely coincidence. 279 300 678
He is also calculating and manipulative. Kismet guides Thor toward dangerous opportunities that accelerate his growth, deploys hypnotized proxies, withholds crucial information, and frequently treats relationships as transactions. 466 467 708
Despite his self-serving behavior, Kismet is capable of loyalty and sacrifice. He attempted to protect Wilde because Wilde remained useful to him, accepted responsibility during the Wind Eye operation, and protected Thor in the Abyss at severe personal cost. His later betrayal of Thor was tied to his own pursuit of freedom and Douglas’s control over him. 361 681 1022 1043

Abyss Survival
