Appearance

The Dark Blade is a dark, short-bladed weapon that radiates a dangerous aura. It can manifest black or blue lightning and move as a streak of dark light. 5 33 41 43

History

The blade's earliest documented emergence occurred in the DC universe during the Central City rift incident. When Steel Bone's cannon blast drove the Black Lantern Ring into the rift, the Dark Blade sprang out, instantly absorbed the Flash's power, and then flew back into the rift. 19

It later surfaced in the Marvel universe as Black Lantern Quicksilver's weapon. During Quicksilver's pursuit of Tony Stark, Lu Mingyu attempted to deflect the thrown blade but found that its strange energy absorbed his super-speed instead. 5 Its interference was also suspected of trapping Lu Mingyu and Tony in a signal-blocked area, where black grit appeared whenever Lu used speed or perceived time as slowed. 8

While fighting Mordo, Quicksilver used the blade to block most of Mordo's magic and then threw it to disrupt magic entirely. Mordo avoided the strike by teleporting the blade away through a portal. 17 The weapon later absorbed power from the Time Stone when Doctor Strange attempted to stop time in the Mirror Dimension. 33

During the Mirror Dimension battle, the Dark Blade pursued Lu Mingyu autonomously, drained nearby Speed Force, and transferred the stolen energy to Black Lantern Quicksilver. Lu and Reverse-Flash ultimately discovered that it was extremely fast but comparatively less agile. 34 It also absorbed Reverse-Flash's speed after piercing his hand, then withdrew through spatial rifts to draw Speed Force from other universes. 35

When Lu Mingyu grabbed the blade during Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch's confrontation with Quicksilver, it abruptly exploded. Lu rescued Quicksilver, Hawkeye, and Scarlet Witch before the blast could reach them. 41 The blade later reappeared during the destruction of Stark Tower, pursuing Lu while he rescued civilians. 43

Reverse-Flash discovered Tony Stark's identifying symbol on the weapon, and the blade became unusually calm in Tony's grasp. Tony could not explain why it responded to him, while Reverse-Flash considered this proof that Tony—or a version of him—had created it. 43 44 45 By the time Quicksilver turned on Mordo, the blade also appeared to contain Doctor Strange's enchantment magic. 49

The blade can drain super-speed and Speed Force from speedsters, weakening them while increasing its own power.
