Background
Spider-Man witnesses Mordo's conversation with Black Lantern Quicksilver from a rooftop near Avengers Tower. Believing Mordo's plan against the Avengers must be stopped, he intervenes alone and tries to restrain him with webbing. Mordo's magic overwhelms Spider-Man's defenses, leaving him unconscious and falling from midair until Iron Man catches him. 18
Tony Stark brings the unconscious Spider-Man to Avengers Tower and arranges a room for him. Seeing that Spider-Man and Lu Mingyu are close in age, Tony decides to train them together. 19
Appearance
Spider-Man wears a red-and-blue bodysuit marked with a spider emblem and uses a masked superhero identity. Out of costume, Peter Parker is described as a blond, average-height young man with deep blue eyes, usually dressed in dark blue clothing. 18 20
- Red-and-blue suit with a spider emblem. 18
- White webbing fired from his hands. 18
- Can adhere to walls and ceilings. 20
- Uses a mask with expressive lenses during combat. 22
Personality
Spider-Man is talkative, humorous, and quick to mock opponents even in dangerous situations. During his encounter with Mordo, he repeatedly tries to make conversation while criticizing the sorcerer's magic as “unscientific.” 18
He is also eager to prove himself. He believes his Civil War experience demonstrates sufficient combat ability, but becomes frustrated when Tony keeps him out of real battles and limits him to training. Despite this frustration, he recognizes that Tony is trying to protect him. 20 37
His confidence can falter when facing speedsters, whose movements exceed his ability to perceive and counter consistently. Nevertheless, he agrees to train his Spider-Sense rather than abandon the plan to confront Black Lantern Quicksilver. 38
Abilities & Skills
Spider-Sense
Spider-Man possesses a danger-warning ability that reacts to imminent attacks.
- Warns him of Mordo's magical punch quickly enough for him to evade it. 18
- Allows him to anticipate Lu Mingyu's lightning path during their training fight. 38
- Has limited effectiveness against speedsters in its current state; Spider-Man agrees to train it further. 38
Web-Slinging and Web Combat
Spider-Man fires webbing from his hands and uses it for movement, restraint, defense, and improvised attacks.
- Swings between buildings and pulls himself onto vertical surfaces. 18
- Creates layered protective cocoons and large anchored webs, though Mordo's magic destroys them. 18
- Forms an elastic web to launch himself at Lu Mingyu like a projectile, ending their first spar in a draw. 22 23
- Seals the training-ground doors, restrains Iron Legion suits, and pulls Lu Mingyu out of danger. 23 24
- Binds Hulk's limbs and legs during the Iron Legion exercise. 28
Wall-Crawling and Mobility
Spider-Man can adhere to walls and ceilings, giving him unusual movement options in combat.
- Clings to the wall above Lu Mingyu's bed. 20
- Uses walls and web lines to avoid icy terrain created by an Iron Legion suit. 23
- Glides and spins through the air to evade the Spider Suit's web-like restraints. 27
Strength, Agility, and Resilience
Spider-Man combines physical strength, agility, and recovery ability in close combat.
- Kicks and throws multiple Iron Legion armors during training. 23
- Tears out an armor's energy core with his foot. 24
- Is stated to possess regenerative abilities, though he cannot safely rely on them to survive severe falls. 18
- Suffers exhaustion after extended training and enters a “transitional phase” in which his old strength has faded before new strength emerges. 24
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Spider-Man suit — Red-and-blue bodysuit with spider emblem and mask. 18
- Web-shooter enhancer — Training equipment used to fire webbing; one unit is damaged during his spar with Lu Mingyu. 23
- New gear from Tony Stark — Worn during Iron Legion training. 21
Relationships
- Tony Stark / Iron Man — Mentor and protector. Tony brings Peter to Avengers Tower, trains him, and saves him from Mordo; Peter resents Tony's lack of faith in his readiness but understands the concern behind it. 18 19 37
- Lu Mingyu / Flash — Training partner and friend. They begin as mutual admirers, spar against each other, then develop effective teamwork against the Iron Legion. 20 22 23
- Mordo — Opponent. Spider-Man attempts to stop Mordo after overhearing his plan against the Avengers, but is defeated by magic. 18
- Reverse-Flash — Ally-by-association through Lu Mingyu. Reverse-Flash encourages Spider-Man to develop his Spider-Sense for the plan against Black Lantern Quicksilver. 37 38
- Aunt May — Peter's aunt. Tony is responsible for Peter while he studies and trains at Avengers Tower, and uses May's expectations to pressure him to keep up with both training and schoolwork. 18 20 37
Story Role / Major Arcs
Confrontation with Mordo
Spider-Man independently confronts Mordo after observing his interaction with Black Lantern Quicksilver. His web-based defenses cannot withstand Mordo's tracking spell, and Iron Man rescues him from a potentially fatal fall. 18
Avengers Tower Training
Tony pairs Spider-Man with Lu Mingyu for increasingly difficult Iron Legion exercises. Spider-Man initially battles Lu Mingyu directly, countering the speedster with an elastic-web launch that leaves both combatants incapacitated. 22 23
When Tony sends the Iron Legion after them, Spider-Man shifts from rivalry to cooperation. He supports Lu Mingyu with web restraints, mobility, tactical advice, and coordinated attacks; together they achieve their first training victory. 23 24
Training Against the Remaining Suits
Spider-Man and Lu Mingyu continue against the Freeze Suit, Spider Suit, and Hulk Suit. He devises a plan to make the suits strike each other and uses his webbing to restrain Hercules and Hulk, complementing Lu Mingyu's speed and lightning attacks. 25 27 28
Preparing for Black Lantern Quicksilver
Frustrated by Tony's refusal to let him participate in real combat, Spider-Man discusses a plan with Lu Mingyu to capture Black Lantern Quicksilver. He acknowledges that his Spider-Sense is inadequate against speedsters but agrees to train and improve it. 37 38
Attempt to Use the Barry Armor
After Tony uses the Allen Armor in battle, Spider-Man asks to try Lu Mingyu's Barry Armor. He cannot activate it because Tony has modified it with identity recognition, restricting use to Lu Mingyu. 46 47
