Background / History
Wuli was originally a programmer and avid anime fan. After scanning a QR code attached to a dark-web post titled “How the Sword God Was Forged,” he was transported into the world of One Piece. A system appeared in his mind, allowing him to gain experience by punishing criminals, completing missions, and acting according to his sense of justice. 1
Before entering the Grand Line, Wuli operated in the South Blue as a bounty hunter. According to CP6 agent Jerry, he sent every wanted pirate he encountered to Marine prison and became widely feared by South Blue pirates. 4
He deliberately entered the Grand Line to pursue Eustass Kid, whose crimes against South Blue civilians had already drawn Wuli’s attention. At Northric Town, he found the aftermath of Kid’s destruction and accepted a system mission to prevent the Kid Pirates from escaping before the Marines arrived. 1
Personality
Wuli is casual and humorous in ordinary situations, once approaching pirates simply to ask for food and later borrowing money for a sword after admitting he had spent his bounty earnings. 1 5 He can also be flamboyant in battle, declaring that he would punish Morgan “in the name of the moon.” 8
Despite the system’s rewards, Wuli consistently acts on genuine compassion. He is disturbed by devastated towns, refuses to abandon civilians to Sea Kings, and later chooses to defy senior Marine officers rather than allow a town’s residents to die in a Buster Call. 1 42 50
He is confident in his swordsmanship and willing to challenge powerful opponents such as Kid, Zephyr, and Zoro. However, he recognizes his own shortcomings, particularly his lack of Armament Haki and insufficient raw striking power against heavily defended enemies. 3 10 43
Abilities & Skills
Heroic Way System
Wuli’s system—initially identified as the Robin Hood System—rewards heroic conduct and combat against criminals with experience, points, skills, missions, and unusual items. 1
- Gains experience through punishing criminals and completing missions. 1
- Can receive severe mission penalties, including blocked experience gain or sealed skills; later rescue missions carry no penalty. 1 3 42
- Absorbs energy or “sin points” released by defeated criminals. 1 9
- Unlocks rewards at Heroic Spirit Point thresholds, including the Swordsmanship Esoterica Scroll at 50 points. 9
- His Chivalry Points decrease on several occasions for reasons he does not understand. 26 46
Shigure Soen Ryu
A water-based sword style and Wuli’s earliest system-granted technique. It can draw in and manipulate nearby water through sword energy for offense, defense, and battlefield control. 1 2
- Axle Rain — Uses spiraling water to suppress and extinguish an opponent’s flames. 1
- Counter Current Rain — Creates a current to obstruct an enemy’s vision and defend against surprise attacks. 1
- Stay-Behind Rain — A rapidly shifting attack that wounded Killer while he attempted to retreat. 1
- Samidare — Fires numerous rain-like sword lights; only partially cut through Kid’s metal fist. 2
- Shibuki Ame / Flourishing Rain Blow — Forms a defensive wall of water capable of blocking attacks, protecting allies, and shielding a warship. 2 9 24 35 42
- Bamboo Thrusting Rain and Swallow’s Beak — Consecutive finishing techniques used to split and shatter Kid’s warship-sized metal fist. 2
- Fire of the Dying Rain — A secret technique that creates rain-like flames which slow an opponent’s movement. 37
- The style reaches its esoterica and later Ultimate Technique status through training and the Swordsmanship Esoterica Scroll. 11 20
Floating Feather / Rain Divine Wind Sword
A sword-intent-based style unlocked after Wuli’s first system level-up. Its techniques manifest wind, snow, frost, and powerful sword pressure. 3 4
- Gale — A wind-like sword-energy strike that overwhelmed Jerry’s Armament Haki-enhanced attacks and broke through Tekkai. 4
- Blowing Snow — Generates a snowstorm and frost-filled sword barrier; used to defeat Morgan and counter Zoro’s sword aura. 8 35
- Falcon — Condenses sword energy into a dangerous line attack that forced Koby to evade with Soru. 17
- Nagi — A sword wind strong enough to disperse Zoro’s Haki-enhanced slash. 36
- Tornado — Creates a destructive vortex capable of tearing apart a warship’s deck and redirecting Zoro’s Extreme Tiger Hunt into the sky. 37
- Sword-intent seeds within Wuli strengthen both his swordsmanship and physical constitution as his comprehension grows. 3 37
Wind’s Sorrow
A high-offense sword move acquired upon reaching Sword Master Lv. 3. Wuli considers it a solution to his previous lack of decisive offensive power. 45
- Obtained through the system upgrade after the Sea King rescue. 45
- The system treats it as an individual move rather than part of an existing sword style. 45
- Additional sword moves may be purchasable with experience points. 45
Combat Ability
Wuli is a highly adaptive combatant who studies opponents before committing to a decisive counterattack. He fought Kid until both were exhausted, defeated Jerry while still injured, and passed the World Military Draft assessment by overcoming Koby and Helmeppo together. 2 4 15 18
- Uses precision and tactical timing against opponents with superior raw power. 2 37
- Can defend allies and large areas with water-based sword barriers. 24 35 42
- Has repeatedly fought while seriously injured, including against Kid and Jerry. 2 4
- Does not possess Armament Haki as of his battle with the Calm Belt Sea King, limiting his ability to damage extremely durable targets. 28 43
Shangyang
Shangyang is Wuli’s one-legged divine-beast pet, obtained from the system’s mystery egg. 45
- Communicates telepathically with Wuli; others hear its speech only as pleasant birdsong. 46
- Is proud, mischievous, and frequently insults Marines who mistake its words for singing. 46
- Detects strong winds and approaching rain. 46
- Initially appears as a hatchling and struggles to fly, eventually perching on Wuli’s shoulder. 46
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Sword — Wuli’s primary weapon; his original blade shattered after his fight with Eustass Kid. 2
- Sword sheath — Used as an improvised weapon against Jerry after losing his sword; it was later ruined in that battle. 4 5
- Kashu — Tashigi’s second sword, temporarily borrowed by Wuli to defeat Morgan. 8
- Swordsmanship Esoterica Scroll — System reward used to comprehend the deeper principles of Shigure Soen Ryu. 9 11
- Justice cloak — Worn after becoming a Marine officer. 27
- “Keep It Up” ribbon — A dud reward received from one of the pet eggs. 45
Relationships
- Hina — Marine benefactor and close ally. She rescued Wuli after the Kid battle, attempted to secure his place in the World Military Draft, and later assigned him to Marine service. 2 3 26
- Shu — Fellow Marine Colonel and assigned partner. Shu repeatedly protects and supports Wuli, while Wuli intervenes to save Shu from Zoro. 28 35 41
- Tashigi — Marine swordswoman who stopped Wuli from being cheated by a weapons merchant. Wuli later saved her from Morgan and earned her trust. 6 8
- Smoker — Supports Hina’s judgment of Wuli and provides the recommendation that secures Wuli’s draft position. 9 11
- Zephyr — Former Marine admiral who defeats Wuli in a mentor-like training duel. Wuli subsequently trains with Zephyr and the NEO Marines. 10 11
- Eustass Kid — Major early adversary. Wuli delays Kid’s escape and destroys his ultimate metal-fist attack, though Kid ultimately escapes. 1 2
- Koby and Helmeppo — Assessment opponents whom Wuli defeats through tactical use of Shigure Soen Ryu and Floating Feather Divine Wind Sword techniques. 15 17 18
- Grant — Competitive Marine rival whose duel with Wuli destroys part of the Marine cafeteria; both consider the match unresolved. 25 26 27
- Roronoa Zoro — Powerful swordsman who views Wuli’s private knowledge of Luffy as a threat. Their battle escalates into a clash of water, frost, flame, and Haki-enhanced sword attacks. 33 35 37
- Shangyang — Wuli’s divine-beast companion, capable of telepathic communication and weather detection. 45 46
Story Role / Major Arcs
Bounty Hunter and Kid Pursuit
Wuli defeats a pirate crew, learns that Kid is in Northric Town, and commandeers the pirates’ ship to pursue him. He challenges Kid’s crew, holds Killer and the zombie back, and delays their escape until the Marines arrive. 1
He survives Kid’s overwhelming magnetic attacks and neutralizes Kid’s final warship-sized metal fist, but his sword breaks and he collapses from his injuries. 2
Recruitment and NEO Marine Training
After awakening, Wuli gains his second sword style and accepts the World Military Draft mission following Hina’s recruitment offer. 3
He defeats CP6 agent Jerry despite reopened injuries, then accompanies Hina in seeking Zephyr. After losing a training duel to Zephyr, Wuli trains with Zephyr, Shuzo, Ain, and the NEO Marines, refining his swordsmanship before departing for Marine Headquarters. 4 10 11
World Military Draft
Wuli arrives as a recommended recruit and is assessed against Koby and Helmeppo. He passes after defeating both Marines, later receiving the system reward once the draft officially concludes. 13 15 18 26
Following the draft, he becomes a Marine Colonel and is assigned Shu as his partner. 28 34
Straw Hat Encounter
Wuli’s knowledge of Luffy’s private history—particularly Shanks losing his arm for Luffy and Rayleigh training him—causes the Straw Hats to view him as an unusually dangerous Marine. 33 40
When Zoro moves to force answers from him, Wuli protects Shu and confronts Zoro directly. Their battle demonstrates Wuli’s ability to counter Zoro’s powerful sword attacks through defensive water techniques, frost, flame, and redirection. 35 37
Calm Belt Rescue and Buster Call
After abnormal weather forces his warship into the Calm Belt, Wuli orders the rescue of civilians attacked by a Sea King. He fights the creature alone so Shu and the Marines can save the survivors, gaining the experience needed to reach Sword Master Lv. 3. 41 42 45
Near a burning town, Wuli discovers that several vice admirals are assembling a Buster Call. Refusing to leave civilians to die beneath pirate attacks or Marine bombardment, he declares that he will enter the town and rescue its residents; Shu and his subordinates choose to follow him. 48 50
