Background

Luo Ye is a child transmigrated from a peaceful world into Meteor City, a lawless wasteland where food, water, and medicine are scarce. His damaged Soul Reaper System gives him an unusual training condition: feminine clothing improves his cultivation speed, forcing him to maintain a girl’s disguise despite his embarrassment 1.

Soon after arriving, he finds the feverish child Feitan in a shipping container and forms an “alliance” with him. Luo Ye initially frames the relationship as an investment in a future powerful protector, but he shares his scarce food, risks approaching an Elder Council Nen user for medicine, and secures water that saves Feitan’s life. Feitan responds by promising to protect him until death 1 4.

After Feitan awakens Nen, Luo Ye’s system unlocks Kidō. The pair use their new strength to seize a house, then accept Machi after Luo Ye recognizes the value of her future Nen ability 6 7 8. He later cooperates with Illumi to eliminate Rasa, surviving Rasa’s spatial attacks through Kidō and newly gained Shunpo before Feitan kills Rasa in retaliation for Luo Ye’s injury 12 18 19.

While exploring Rasa’s house, Luo Ye discovers Chinese writing left by another transmigrator. By completing the inscriptions, he gains control of the house—an unusual postmortem-Nen structure with a developing consciousness—and later uses its teleportation to locate Rasa’s hidden supplies 29 30 32 33.

Luo Ye recruits Illumi despite fearing that doing so may draw him into conflict with Chrollo Lucilfer. When Chrollo’s group challenges Luo Ye’s ownership of the house, Luo Ye supports his allies with Kidō but ultimately pushes for negotiations rather than escalating a conflict with the future Phantom Troupe leader 35 40 46 47 48 50.

Later, Luo Ye takes up residence under Rondo (Hisoka's father), acting as an older-brother figure and supervisor to a younger Hisoka while enjoying a luxurious lifestyle funded by Rondo 128 133. To escape tracking and protect his secrets from Feitan and Chrollo, he navigates multiple conflicts, eventually entering the 287th Hunter Exam alongside Hisoka under false pretenses 177 180 189. During the exam, it is revealed that Byakuya Kuchiki and Xiao Ai share a blood tie and origin linked to his Soul Reaper system, leading to a complex web of reconciliations, protective rings, and escalating romantic tension with Feitan, who remains fiercely possessive of him 196 252 274.

Luo Ye is a good-looking child whose appearance allows him to convincingly pass as a girl in Meteor City. He uses feminine clothing as both a disguise and a requirement for accelerating his system’s cultivation 1.

His foreknowledge of major figures makes him wary of changing events too recklessly, particularly where Chrollo is concerned 35 38 48.

Despite presenting his care for others as self-interest, Luo Ye repeatedly risks himself for his companions. He saves Feitan while expecting future protection, intervenes when his allies are endangered by Rasa, and seeks cooperation over strict division of scarce resources 1 4 20 34.

He avoids direct interpersonal conflict as much as physical danger. When Feitan and Illumi compete for rooms beside him, he uses Machi as an excuse to escape making a choice 41. He is also largely oblivious to Feitan’s romantic attachment and interprets intimacy or possessiveness as ordinary group conflict 38 39, though he grows increasingly anxious as Feitan’s romantic pursuit intensifies 148 158.
