Power Progression

Background / History

Moyun transmigrated into the world of One Piece seventeen years before the beginning of the main story and became a Celestial Dragon. Unlike many of his fellow World Nobles, he rejected slavery and used his strength to punish Celestial Dragons who abused or captured civilians. He secretly ate the Chaos Fruit stored in Mary Geoise’s Flower Room without facing punishment. 1 2

When CP0 reported that Luffy had begun his journey, Moyun recognized that the major events of the world were starting. Rather than wait for Luffy or another figure to uncover the Void Century, he decided to investigate the world’s hidden history himself. His initial plan centered on the Poneglyphs and the scholars of Ohara. 1 2

Moyun left Mary Geoise aboard a small, advanced ship made from Adam Tree wood. Before his departure, Lillianlo gave him the Dog-Dog Fruit, Model: Moon Wolf, which he intended to give to the injured white dog ShSh. He sailed first to the ruins of Ohara, where he used the Chaos Fruit’s resurrection power to summon Nico Olvia. 2 3

Olvia initially refused to help him decipher the Poneglyphs, but changed her mind after learning that her daughter Robin was alive and persecuted by the World Government. Moyun restored Olvia to a seventeen-year-old body, linking her life to his own and placing her soul under his control. He promised to restore her freedom if she helped uncover the truth of the Void Century. 3

In Orange Town, Moyun gave the Moon Wolf Devil Fruit to ShSh, allowing the dog to transform into a powerful white wolf. He supported ShSh’s revenge against Richie for the destruction of its master’s pet shop, then took ShSh aboard his ship. Moyun’s interference also led to his first clash with Luffy and altered the expected sequence of events. 4 5 6

Moyun later resurrected Kuina at her grave after proving his ability to Koshiro by killing and reviving a butterfly. Kuina accepted his condition that she accompany him and immediately resumed her ambition to become the world’s greatest swordsman. Moyun also recruited Hisoka, a former human transformed by the Vine-Vine Fruit, after encountering him on Sea Root Island. 8 9 10 31 36

By the time the group reached the Grand Line, Moyun had developed his spatial abilities enough to teleport his entire ship across Reverse Mountain. He continued influencing major events while trying to keep his group concealed, including securing Yubashiri for Kuina before Zoro could obtain it and observing Dragon’s intervention in Loguetown. 41 42 45

At Brandy Island, Moyun investigated an operation connected to Kaido’s forces and the failed SMILE experiments that had left the townspeople emotionally numb. He joined forces with the fugitive Palo Cruz, defeated a spy, and transported the group to the abandoned factory on the mountain summit. 47 48 49 50

Chigu and Heishui’s squad subsequently confronted Moyun’s group. Chigu killed Olvia despite Moyun’s attempt to revive her. His grief triggered an unstable transformation in which he killed Chigu, lost his memory of the fight, and attacked Palo without recognizing him. Palo knocked him unconscious to prevent him from destroying his own body. Moyun learned that a person he had already revived could not be resurrected a second time. He blamed Kaido for the forces behind Olvia’s death and resolved to take revenge. 57 60 61 62 65

Moyun took his companions to Chaos Island to train. He learned to use his transformation more deliberately and improved Gear Second, though its strain remained dangerous. He later crossed paths with the Revolutionary Army through Banijo and Sabo. Moyun’s knowledge of Kuma and Sabo’s forgotten brothers unsettled Sabo and led Moyun to consider whether he could alter Ace’s fate. 66 67 68 72 73

As his travels continued, Moyun established a company and developed wider uses for Chaos Power. On Sky Island, he survived being destroyed by Enel’s Divine Punishment through Nirvana Rebirth, then defeated Enel and healed his companions. Moyun protected his companions during a confrontation with Admiral Aokiji and survived being impaled and frozen. In Water 7, he fought Rob Lucci after discovering ShSh injured and refusing to surrender Robin or the blueprints Lucci sought. Moyun defeated Lucci at considerable physical cost. During that training period, Moyun disappeared into Heaven Island, where an old Dream-Dream Fruit user trapped him in a realistic Dreamscape. The old man used pleasant dreams to exploit captives as sources of Dream Power. Moyun’s companions searched for him, and Moyun ultimately countered the dream realm by creating his own Chaos Space within it. Moyun expanded his business through factories, banks, and the electricity-powered Electric Vearth. In the Hasa Kingdom, he helped defeat pirates led by Christol, tested Chaotic Dreamscape on their leader, and secured the king’s support for new factories and a bank. His growing network drew the attention of Big Mom’s sons and Marine investigators, who struggled to establish his origins. 203 231 233 234

Moyun eventually disclosed his Celestial Dragon origins to his crew. They accepted him without changing how they treated him, though he explained that he concealed his identity because becoming a pirate could cost him his status if the World Government learned the truth. Before entering the New World, he arranged for the crew to accompany Sabo on Revolutionary Army operations and train under Dragon’s organization. He remained determined to confront Kaido himself and, at the end of the story, resolved to change the coming Summit War. 202 240 243

Appearance

Moyun is a short, silver-haired young man with a youthful, baby-faced appearance. His revived companions initially mistake him for a child despite his stated age of seventeen. He is described as handsome and places considerable importance on his hair and appearance. 1 3 23 33

Personality

Moyun is confident, ambitious, and highly self-assured. He enjoys displaying his abilities, making dramatic entrances, and witnessing famous events from the world he already knows. His confidence sometimes becomes recklessness, such as when he provokes giant creatures or attempts dangerous long-range teleportation without knowing whether the technique will succeed. 4 33 45

Despite his background, Moyun strongly opposes slavery and the abuse of civilians. He recognizes that personally beating cruel Celestial Dragons cannot fix the system that enables them, which motivates his decision to leave Mary Geoise and pursue a larger goal. 1 2

He is also calculating and willing to manipulate others. He persuades Olvia to accept resurrection by emphasizing Robin’s suffering, controls revived souls through the Chaos Fruit, and coerces Hisoka and the giant frog when he believes their cooperation is necessary. 3 31 34

Moyun combines genuine concern with possessiveness and self-interest. He protects his companions, supports ShSh’s revenge, gives Kuina room to fight for herself, and allows Koshiro and Kuina time to reunite. At the same time, he initially resurrects or recruits people because their talents serve his plans. 9 23 36

Chaos Yin and Yang: Resurrection of the Dead

This awakened ability allows Moyun to summon a deceased person’s heroic spirit and restore it to a young physical body through black yin and white yang energy. He successfully uses it on Olvia and Kuina after experimenting on animals. On Heaven Island, he experiences apparent precognitive sensations while dodging lightning, though he later learns that the island’s Thunder Punishment and much of his apparent training were fabricated within the old man’s Dreamscape. His later combat with the old man demonstrates an unusual predictive awareness: attacks feel familiar before they occur, and he can identify patterns and weaknesses. 171 175 177 180 194 195

Tactical Planning and Foreknowledge

Moyun knows the broad direction of the original One Piece storyline and uses that knowledge to predict important encounters. He recognizes Luffy’s departure, anticipates Buggy’s future importance, observes the first meeting between Luffy and Smoker, and seeks Yubashiri before Zoro can acquire it. 1 7 39 41

His foreknowledge has limits. Luffy’s delayed arrival in Orange Town shows that Moyun’s interventions can alter the expected timeline, and he is repeatedly forced to react to events he did not anticipate. 4
